It takes more than a steamy rendezvous to “GET PREGNANT”, the embryo must successfully implant, and then develop, for you to BE PREGNANT.
You’re trying to “get pregnant”.
You’re carefully orchestrating moments that will allow the sperm and egg to MEET, and…. make MAGIC. But it takes more than a steamy rendezvous to “GET PREGNANT”. The rendezvous, creates the embryo, but the embryo must successfully implant, and then develop, for you to BE PREGNANT.
Passing the IMPLANTATION TEST, is the CRITICAL STEP in getting pregnant. Unfortunately, a large percentage of embryo’s FAIL this test………..
Wanting to improve their pass rate, a team of fertility experts, from the Infertility Unit of the Fondazione Ca’Granda in Italy, set about finding out what embryo’s needed to succeed.
Finding test takers
As experts in the rendezvous business, the team had lots of embryos ready to take the test.
Since, it is already well known, that the embryos from women with underlying health issues, such as obesity, diabetes, hypertension and multiple sclerosis, are not good test takers, the team opted to exclude these embryos from their study. Only embryo’s from normal weight (BMI between 18 and 25 kg/m2), healthy Mom’s, were invited to participate in their study.
This still left the team with 480 embryos, willing and able, to sit the IMPLANTATION TEST.
Vitamin D status
The team suspected that the vitamin D status of the embryo’s Mom might matter, because the receptor for vitamin D, is found throughout the female reproductive system.
Before being put to the test, the embryo’s were divided into two groups, based on their Mom’s vitamin D status.
- There were 181 embryos in the vitamin sufficient group i.e. their Mom’s had 25(OH) D levels > 20 ng/ml
- There were 154 embryos in the vitamin insufficient group, i.e. their Mom’s had had 25(OH)D levels < 20 ng/ml
The team then analysed how the embryos performed on the test.
Taking the IMPLANTATION TEST
Vitamin D status impacted the final test scores.
31 % of the vitamin D sufficient embryos, passed the test, while only 20 % of the vitamin D insufficient embryos passed.
Vitamin D status clearly mattered.
Being vitamin D sufficient, makes you nearly twice as likely to fall pregnant, following IVF treatment.
Prime your embryo to pass
Test taking is hard, this is why, any time you take a test, you spend time GETTING READY. You want to be as prepared as possible, to take the test.
Maybe you’re still trying to fall pregnant al naturale, maybe you’ve already getting a little help from technology. Either way, make sure your embryo’s are as ready as they can be for the big test………
Ensure your vitamin D status is SUFFICIENT.
Sun tan, supplement – do it what it takes to bump up your vitamin D levels to the normal range.
PS. Vitamin D is also important for baby’s development, especially their brain development – so continue to watch this number throughout your pregnancy.
