Quick summary of the science  :

Fructose, or fruit sugar, is one of the three dietary monosaccharides, along with glucose and galactose, that are absorbed directly into blood during digestion. The human body, is also able to make fructose, under certain circumstances.  Thanks to it's chemistry, it is a little harder to process than glucose and this makes it potentially more damaging than glucose, when consumed in excess.

Small amounts of fructose aren’t a problem. In fact, they’re a treat, but large amounts of fructose are a metabolic CRISIS.
From your small intestine, because you ate too much, too quickly – your liver has to deal with it. Now, it can, but fructose is unbalanced, so it’s not easy
Rehydrating with a cold drink, puts back the water, along with some sugar. The glucose is FUEL, but the fructose………is a challenge, for a dehydrated kidney.
Spoonfuls of table sugar in tea, soda containing high fructose corn syrup or a glass of fruit juice –they all contain fructose. And fructose makes you fat.
Bats don’t have access to aspirin and silencing a thousand shrieking neighbours is not an option. So what does a bat do when it eats fermenting fruit ?
Drinking sugar laden beverages is not a health move. BUT, they taste GOOD. So, can you enjoy them, without the consequences ? Maybe. It is all in the timing.
