“Could your fat cells be turning you into half a man”
Every man’s goal…………. is to be THE ALPHA MALE. The objective, which is hard wired into the male brain – is out-and-out control and as an added bonus, to get the girl.
Some men are born with a genetic “advantage”, allowing them to rule many castles, but healthy doses of testosterone, ensure every man is at least king of his own castle.
But biology conspires against castle domination.
It’s called GETTING OLD.
But, old age is not the only threat to castle domination – unfortunately, having a big belly, is a fast way to being dethroned.
Bellyaching fat cells
A big belly is more than an eye sore – it is a tumultuous mix of unhappy fat cells and macrophages. Unhappy fat cells do not suffer in silence, they protest loudly, spitting out a slew of chemicals. This chemical blend contributes to insulin resistance and associated health troubles.
The bigger the belly, the more fat cells are active.
Fat cells are not just storage cupboards, they are continuously moving fat about. Both burning and storing – in obedience to the hormonal cues.
Testosterone puts the squeeze on
Testosterone is one of the hormones they are subject to.
It strong arms them into processing fat proficiently. It both inhibits the lipoprotein lipase enzyme, responsible for bringing fat in, and stimulates fat burning, by up-regulating the catecholamine signalling system.
So testosterone makes you a lean mean fighting machine.
Testosterone banished from the castle
Busy fat cells sometime need to take a break.
So built into the fat cell’s milieu, is an enzyme or two, that “neutralizes” the testosterone squeeze.
The keto reductase 1c enzyme – AKRIc for short, trips up dihydrotestosterone, removing it from the picture. The whole thing is quite innocent.
But, the second enzyme, aromatase is far more malicious. It does not just trip up testosterone, it feminizes him – turning him into the girl hormone, estrogen.
Estrogen is only good for girls
So our hot blooded male ends up swimming with the girlie hormone, estrogen.
Now every man does have a little estrogen circulating, because there are some jobs that only a girl can do. But, the operative word, is A LITTLE.
When fat cells begin banishing testosterone from the castle, the estrogen levels rise. This rise creates a great deal of confusion in the brain, causing it to decrease testosterone production.
Testosterone an endangered species
A very unfortunate situation develops….
- Less testosterone is pumped into the system – effectively turning off the fat burning system.
- But when the body is not actually burning fat, it needs more cupboards to store it. More fat cells are born, the process is known as adipogenesis.
- More fat cells mean……. more aromatase, which means more estrogen, causing more confusion in the brain.
- And……….. less testosterone.
In extreme cases – man boobs and infertility, aka half a man syndrome.
But for most regular Jo’s, this testosterone deficiency does not show on the outside, but it shows on the inside, it contributes to disease. Testosterone is an atheroprotective chemical, this means it protects from heart disease. In a nut shell, it protects men from atherosclerosis, so when it goes awol, the risk of a heart attack or stroke, increases.
Give your testosterone a boost
If you have a big belly – you need to lose it. Need help in doing this safely, enrol in our Tame your Sugar Gremlin on line programme.
And encourage your body to make more testosterone by being MANNLY.
- Eat like a man – eat steak, not salad. It’s made from cholesterol.
- Work out – do a little power lifting and do it aggressively
- Be a real jock do it for 8 hours.
Too little sleep can turn you into a sorry looking wimp with zero get up an go, because sleep deprivation causes testosterone levels to plummet
The connection between too much sugar and weight troubles is well established. But too much sugar is also causing sex hormone hang-ups.
We’ve been programmed to believe soy is a health food, but as far sperm are concerned, the lady of the soy bean wreaks havoc on sperm counts.
