How to avoid noctouria – night time urination
You can exercise a little during the day, to keep you and your prostate gland in shape. Or you can exercise at night, as you run to the bathroom to pee.
It is the middle of the night……………………….
But, you’re up and about – THE REASON.
You need to tinkle.
What makes this trip, especially bothersome…………. is it is the second time, tonight. And you took special precautions.
- You skipped the cup of tea, after dinner.
- You went to bed, a little later than you wanted to.
- You dutifully offloaded your bladder prior to getting into bed.
Eish !
Tinkle tinkle little star
The official name for the problem – noctouria (night time urination).
And it is a problem.
It disrupts your sleep, as well as the sleep of everyone else in the house.
And disrupted sleep, is UGLY. You look UGLY and feel UGLY. And the UGLY feeling, persists all day, as you struggle through your life because your “get up and go, has got and left”. The interrupted sleep also puts your overall health at risk – it raises blood pressure, sugar levels and broadens waist lines.
So………….. is it avoidable ?
The night jiggles
Stats suggest it is pretty common. 50 % of men over the age of 45 experience nocturia.
The reason, for most of these night time bathroom visitations – middle aged spread. Not just of the belly, but of the prostate gland. As the prostate gland ages, it gains stature. Unfortunately, it is positioned near the hose pipe, that empties the bladder.
The prostate gland’s expanding frame, flattens the hosepipe that is used to empty the bladder.
When the bladder has difficulty emptying. It stops being Mr NICE GUY, timing it’s excretions around your schedule and becomes rather inconsiderate. When it needs to eliminate excess fluids, it happily wakes YOU up.
So what can you do ?
Move that prostrate
Researchers from Loyala University have shown, moving more, during the day, can definitely decrease these nightly bathroom visits.
They reached this conclusion, when they analysed a sub-set of the data from a big trail, affectionately known as the PLCO (Prostate, Lung, Colorectal and Ovarian Screening) trial, looking for clues about what might make men more likely to suffer from prostate troubles.
There are a lot of OLD MEN in this study.
Some of them already had prostate troubles when the study started, twenty years ago – the team were not interested in these dudes.
They wanted to know about those who developed prostate troubles ……………
Old prostates…
As their prostate’s aged.
4710 men have ticked the box for “bathroom visitations” in the middle of the ngith, over the years. This is the group the team asked…….
What were they up to ?
- What did they eat ?
- Did they smoke ?
- Did they move ? How much ? How often ?
Day jiggles versus night jiggles
Two things, separated the heavy weight prostates, from the light weight prostates.
# 1
Heavy weight prostates tended to belong to heavy dudes. Another reason to lose those extra pounds. If you need help, check out our Tame the Sugar Gremlin programme, which is a weight loss programme that uses biology, not psychology, to slim you down.
# 2
The more exercise happened during the day, the less “exercise” happened at night. Men who worked out for an hour or more a week, were 13 % less likely to report nocturia. And, when the exercisers did suffer from nocturia, it was not as bad. Read they only get up twice a night, as opposed to three or more times a night).
You’re working out your prostate
Not just your muscles.
So, do a few moves during the day. It will help you SLEEP through the night.
